The End of the Semester

Throughout the past semester, we have looked at many forms of PR initiatives, and the two that stuck out to me was the Everton story about their program and the ALDI’s #poorestchallenge story. For Starters, Everton did a great job of making sure their program was seen in a positive light. The program is beneficial to the community they are in, and due to the links provided by them, people were able to get an insight into what the program does for their kids. They also seem like a very authentic and ethical program. They value things that are important to the community. Now unlike Everton, ALDI’S post was awful, they came up with a hashtag called the poorestchallenge. ALDI was trying to explain people can buy great food at low and reasonable prices at their establishment. While what they were trying to do was good, the way they did it was not. It was an incentive to phrase a challenge like that. That’s why when they posted it the media went crazy. The community turned on ALDI for being demeaning to those with families with low income. The difference between Everton’s Tackling the Blue post and ALDI’s #poorestchallenge simply comes down to the sensitivity of people’s feelings. Everton works with students with mental illness, which can sometimes be a sensitive subject but they used words and phrases to push the acceptance of others and trying to help people succeed. While ALDI’s ultimately said hey if you are poor shop here when they posted the hashtag. ALDI’s should have changed their campaign to something more positive when it comes to their prices.

Before starting our partnership with the Body Project, I had a hard time writing. I never knew how to keep things short and concise to the point. I use to write too much information in my stories or I would forget to put the key information in the story that is needed. Working with the Body Project it really helped with me finding easier and shorter ways to get my point across. Also, I use to write with lots of cliches throughout my writing. My groupmates helped me find my own unique form of writing. I also learned how to create content that others would want to see, even if I only had a little part to play in creating the post. I made the flyer that was turned in, and I was able to work with my team, and they helped me really find my creative side when it comes to promotion. I am so glad, that I can take what I learned and use it in my personal life.

I started, using what I have learned from this class throughout my social media platforms. For example, I had two accounts I have my personal account and my fitness account. Out of the two I am more proud of my personal account, if people were to look at my music Instagram story highlight they could see how I am practicing my PR flyer skills. I put the music I like here and I tag the artist in it so people can check out the artist’s account and see if they like what they see and hear. Now I just started my fitness account about a year ago, I am still trying to figure out what I want to post, but so far I have been posting content about the cleanses I have been on. I am going to start adding content that has to do with the food changes I have made. If you want to check out either account click on the account names here, my personal is @heyitsemma19 or my fitness account @emma_fitness19.

  1. Great analysis of the Everton and Aldi campaigns, Emma—two very different campaigns that had drastically different outcomes. So glad to read you have more confidence now as a writer, and that you are applying skills to your personal social accounts. That’s fantastic! Keep focusing on short paragraphs for blog writing and working in intriguing visuals where appropriate. It’s been great watching your blog writing strengthen this semester!
