The Hy-Vee in West Des Moines Iowa released a new statement about the changes they have made to their store increase the level of protection for their customers. In the inverted pyramid structure, the lead should immediately explain why this is a newsworthy piece of writing. Now with this press release from Hy-Vee, it did not state the importance of the press release right away. It was more of a build-up to the lead which was more at the end of the second paragraph and the third paragraph. I think most people just want to know how this going to affect their shopping experience. Most people know that is has to do with the COVID-19 pandemic. Just jumping right into can save them more room in their press release. They could use that space to add a quote or more ifmormation that their consumers might need. Although, I will say that the article does flow from most important to least. The most vital information is the changes, while the reasons why are not that important to the press release. It was more of background information about the new changes, which don’t get me wrong is good to have in there but most people are just going to skim over that and look for the imformation that is for them.If you want to see all the other changes made in the West Des Moines Iowa Hy-Vee stores click the link here.
This press release has a direct quote from the Hy-Vee Chairman, CEO and President Randy Edeker and they placed it at the very end of the press release. The quote does a good job of giving the audience an inside to the workers and all that they are trying to do to make sure their customers are staying healthy while in the store. While I think that quote works I feel like they could have added another short quote. If it were me, I would have interviewed one of the store workers to get their point of view of the new changes and if they think it is going to help people stay healthy in the store. I dont think to interview a customer would be as beneficial because they are not surrounded by the window panels and they are not going up and down aisles all day. They are going into the store for maybe an hour or two at most. While the store workers are there all day.
Great suggestion here, Emma, to make the lead more specific re: the changes. Also like that you mentioned adding in an additional quote–an employee perspective would be a definite benefit here. Keep focusing on blog writing style with short paragraphs that flow together seamlessly.
